chrisw:  We're happy to have participated in an interview about mp3s and intellectual property on the Creative Commons site. It was fun. And, the day after the Grammys were aired, the points of view shared are feeling especially radical. As in, y'know, maybe our scope for evaluating commercial music shouldn't begin with a subset of artists based on an arbitrary amount of albums sold or money made. Or as actually quoted in the interview:
"Free trading of our music has genuine, verifiable returns. Community. Exchanges of artistic thought and aesthetic commodity...The RIAA argument that artists won't particpate in the marketplace of ideas without financial compensation for CDs seems pretty short-sighted from where we sit."
We were lucky to share the interview with Scott Andrew who does a solo turn as The Walkingbirds.
Scott Andrew: I love hearing from someone who really liked the song, and appreciate the comments from people who thought the drums were too loud, the bassline too cheesy, and so on. And every so often I get a message from someone in Pakistan or Senegal, or somewhere distant that I will probably never see in my lifetime, and I am totally blown away.
And, as Dealership, we'll be releasing our song Green under a few of the Creative Commons' licenses for their compilation.

Music is grand. Go read the interview.
